Submissions

We are currently open to guest submissions for publication online via our website or quarterly digital magazine. At VESPER, we believe in the power of well-crafted prose, and we ask that you carefully consider our submission guidelines prior to sending in your queries. When you carefully follow our guidelines, this shows us that you are serious about your work and, therefore, we will also take it seriously.

Queries

At this time, we only accept digital submissions. Please send your pitch to [email protected] and clearly identify your title and area of focus in the subject line. (e.g. Luxury Lifestyle Pitch: The Ten Best Candle Scents for Spring.) We ask that you refrain from sending completed articles (except in the case of The Final Vesper) and instead send a pitch which includes the following:

  • A sample title for your piece and subtitle if you have one
  • A one-paragraph summary of your piece and any relevant sources, including projected word count (ideally between 1,500 and 2,000 words for a feature-length article) and completion date
  • A brief biography establishing credibility in your field, including any past publication credentials and links to social media accounts.

Content

VESPER is committed to publishing quality written works pertaining to beauty, style, and luxury living. Please ensure that you have read several of our articles prior to submission in order to confirm that your tone matches that of VESPER—one which is warm, inspirational, and aspirational. Although we are a luxury publication, we believe that life’s greatest luxuries are those which cannot be purchased. We view luxury not as a way to celebrate or flaunt one’s wealth but, instead, a point of view. Please ensure that you have read our mission statement and that your proposed article aligns with our mission and values.

Currently, we are accepting submissions in three areas of focus:

  • Beauty (health, nutrition, skincare, makeup, etc.)
  • Style (fashion, accessories, shopping, etc.)
  • Living (home decor, travel, food & drink, etc.)

However, we are also open to reviewing pieces with a more open-ended theme, such as those pertaining to literature, cinema, current style events, and faith. That being said, VESPER will not review the content which includes or celebrates the following:

  • Profanity (including but not limited to explicit language or vulgar terms)
  • Graphic or gratuitous sexual content (including full or partial nudity)
  • Illegal activities or illicit substances (including promotion of alcohol, tobacco, or drug use)
  • Blasphemy (any content mocking or undermining faith)
  • Excessive vulgarity, crudeness, or anything otherwise lacking in decorum

VESPER’s mission is to inspire and encourage women to live a life which is gracefully glamorous—built on faith and trimmed in fashion. Please ensure that not only your content but also your tone are congruous with this.

Target Audience

VESPER’s primary target audience is women ages 20-35 who are upwardly mobile. They may be single, dating, engaged, or married but, independent of relationship status, they aspire to greatness in their chosen professional field or through personal achievements. While our target demographic includes readers of every socioeconomic status, the VESPER woman appreciates class, elegance, and style, and their life reflects an air of luxury independent of their financial status. They appreciate content which can inspire them as they continue to seek and live out their purpose.

Response Window

We strive to reply to all submissions within one month. If you have not heard from us after this time, please feel free to contact us at [email protected].

The Final Vesper

“The Final Vesper” is a poetic prayer printed on the last page of each quarterly VESPER magazine issue. It is designed to be lush and lyrical—something upon which women can meditate as they end their days. When submitting a piece to be featured as “The Final Vesper”, please submit the content in its entirety and follow the specific guidelines.

• Prayers should be based on or reference a specific Scriptural verse, identified at the end of the prayer.

Prayers may or may not rhyme, but they should flow in a manner similar to a Psalm or hymn.

• Prayers should be written in a first-person point of view.

• Word count is flexible; focus instead on the integrity of the writing.

• Prayers should show depth and reverence, assisting women as they aspire to grow in grace and peace while deepening their faith in Christ.

• Prayers should feature classic, faith-filled language, using historical/liturgical references as well as literary and poetic deceives to avoid present-day “Christianese” and overused scriptural analogies (chains breaking, mountains moving, storms calming, etc.) If you choose to incorporate a metaphor common in contemporary Christianity, please do so from a place of originality and add your own perspective.

• When writing your prayer, ponder how you might invent your own analogies through nuanced imagery pertaining to the sacred beauty of nature (morning dew, twilight, rustling leaves) or seemingly humble everyday occurrences (handwritten prayers, church bells, worn leather Bibles)
